Yawn
"Brownie or cake Big Joe?" Big Joe was settled into my couch in the basement. He could barely hear me over the Celtics/Cavs game on TV. "Big Joe!" I called. "Brownie," came the reply, muffled through the reclined part of the sofa he was on. We were hanging out downstairs tonight as the girls were upstairs babysitting the boy. After the ballgames we were on to the NBA playoffs, watching LeBron going over Kevin Garnett's head. And all the while we were taking down the leftover brownies and cake; remnants of yesterday's Mother's Day festivities. Snacks and baseball. What else do you need? Fortunately, the snacks were delicious. I wish we could say the same for the baseball...
It's getting bad. You know it's getting bad when there are no texts, no phone calls, no buzz. And a distinct lack of comments on the BPS, I would add. Today was a damp, dark, cold day in
I'm not so worried about Pettitte. He did this last year, too. He got rolling eventually. My concern is that the Moose won't be able to keep up the pace when Pettitte gets right. I'm hoping Darrell Rasner will give us the Aaron Small formula. Throw strikes, let them hit it into play, go deep into games, and give the bats a chance to get you a win.
So Kei Igawa got clobbered. Shocking. Sorry. Kei Igawa is not a major league pitcher. Period. You want to put him in the bullpen? Fine. He's not going to work there, either. Guys, here is how this works. There is an economic phenomenon called the sunk cost. It means money spent that isn't coming back no matter what. Call it the cost of doing business. So you dropped 40 million on Kei Igawa. It's gone. That's that. Don't compound the problem by throwing him in there regardless of the fact that he can't pitch in the major leagues. It's gone. Let it go. JD is right. They should have let the poor guy go pitch in the National League. Maybe that would have worked out. It's not really the major leagues anyway. He's not a good fit here in
A few weeks ago I said the Tigers look like the class of the American League. Most say they look like a bunch of high-priced, overpaid parts that don't fit together very well. Maybe I should reconsider...
Remember when the talk was of the Yankees getting Miguel Cabrera to replace Allie Rodriguez? Or when the Yankees signed Wilson Betemit as insurance if Allie left? Hey, it's not going to matter, right? We're going to have all this pitching to blow people away. We're not going to need Allie. Well, we're getting to see what life would have been like. Anybody still think that would have been a good idea?
Reid! Love to see you back. And JD and Mike F. Keep the comments coming guys. Gives us all something to look forward to.
Wang wins tomorrow.....

Hey,
New Business system at work, and a larger hard drive at home, so I've had limited access. I have been reading just no time to post.
I agree with you on Kei. He's not cut for it. It seems like they want to get whatever they can out of him (even if it means a loss). It makes no sense to put him in there unless they want to use him for a left handed batter or two. It's another one of those signings that just didn't pan out.
As for yesterday's game; 5 hits in 7 innings isn't going to get us much. Giambi .177, Cano .188, and Molina .214 not helping any. Tampa Bay is on a hot streak havivg swept the Angels. Like you said lets hope Wang wns today. Have a great day all.

I was really hoping to go into this series and make up some ground on TB and the dreaded Boston. I am wondering if Andy is having a problem with his elbow. His last few starts have been pretty shaky. Last year, he didn't get off to a bad start so much as he had very little run support on the nights he pitched. Mo blew the save on that beautiful game in Oakland, and the bullpen blew so many games after that. So, while it was frustrating, at least he was pitching well. This year just feels different. He doesn't look confident out there, he seems to be struggling and just not in command of his pitches. Too many rockets being hit off of him in the past few starts. I worry about hearing that he will be going to the DL soon as well. I hope I am wrong.

I’ll have to agree with you on most of your points….this season has incredibly boring for nyc baseball. I’ll admit I watched the first few innings last night, saw the yanks get behind and figured they weren’t coming back so made my girl happy by watching How I Met Your Mother and Rule of Engagement. I’ll admit they were probably more entertaining that that game. Down 5-6 runs I would have stayed tuned in the past, but with this lineup didn’t see it happening. I’m pissed Arod won’t be playing against the Mets this weekend.

I can see why people aren't too jazzed, Geoff, when the Yankees put in a lousy, uninspired game last night. Garza shut them down, but yet again they showed no fight. I'm sure they want to win, but equally sure they didn't show it yesterday. It was embarrassing when the camera panned across the Yanks dugout in the sixth, when it was 6-0, and it might as well have been 66-0. No one spoke with each other, no one was yelling out, no one was trying to pick up the others. They looked like a bunch of strangers instead of teammates, and that's disgraceful. They showed no fight and they showed no unity. I'm sure they'll come around, but that kind of lackluster showing has no place in professional sports. They looked indifferent.

The Rays in first place? Now I have to go to the MLB wild card drop down menu for comfort, just like a Yankee fan.
The Orioles and Rays putting the beat down on us?
Somebody didn't get the memo.
